Showcase – Christchurch Riverside

The Client Brief:

This is a riverside residence with private mooring and far-reaching views to Christchurch Priory. The client enjoys cooking and wanted to interact with guests, family and friends who would be at the dining table or in the lounge area and enjoy the view of the river whilst preparing food.

Spatial Design

As the view and potential interaction with family and friends were on two different planes, I proposed an L-shaped peninsula with a raised breakfast bar to further facilitate interaction.

I re-positioned the television in the centre of the main window run which allowed it to be viewed from the kitchen, dining or lounge spaces and further allowed me to incorporate a large L-shaped sofa arrangement from which you could enjoy the view, the TV or a conversation with the chef.

Ambience

We were working with the clients’ existing oak floor and the major consideration was the close proximity to the river. It was important that the large sofa worked with the floor and the backdrop. The light over the dining table was set high enough that it did not interrupt the view of the river as you entered the space but the fitting from Brand Van Egmond that I selected set the tone for uniqueness and quality. The matching floor and table lamps on the Giorgetti console continued the theme. The over-sized mirror above the console reflects the view.
